I have always tried to be proactive instead of reactive to UTIs and Candida.  If you have had one you know that you do Not want a repeat performance.  I was happy to try out this Hyperbiotics Pro-women probiotic formula I love that this formula not only has 6 strains of probiotics to tackle bloating, digestion, weight loss(not sure about that one) and of course yeast(candida); it also has cranberry extract which is so beneficial when warding off or combating a UTI.  I had not seen a combination pill like this before.

Beaute La Royale Face Brush Kit Review

Several months ago my Clarisonic died.  I have been using konjac sponges in the meantime.  I have been happy with the sponges for cleaning my face and body, but is just does not get that daily light exfoliation and deep cleaning that my Clarisonic did.  I got the opportunity to try out this Beaute La Royale cleansing system and was excited to see if I finally had an answer to my prayers and wallet.  The brush kit comes with the waterproof cleansing wand and 4 attachment heads to use on body, face, and feet.  I found 4 AA batteries and after inserting them and turning on the machine I noticed the brush simply spins.  I noticed right away that the brush head spins and is a tiny bit wobbly.  The brush heads are soft against dry skin when I put it on my arm to try out.  

The first time I tried out this small facial brush I placed some of my cleanser on the brush head as I used to do with my Clarisonic and then spread the rest of the cleanser on my face.  I turned the brush on and tried out my forehead.  Well the first time, not being used to a spinning brush, it spun right off my face.  I figured out to rub the brush in clockwise circles as the brush spins counterclockwise.  There is no timer on this machine so I just had to guesstimate how long to keep on each area of my face.  I found the brush to be pretty rough on my skin even at the lightest pressure.  I also seemed to have difficulty in getting the cleanser spread over the rest of my face for cleaning.  I then decided to try the body brush.  I had the same issue with trying to remember to keep moving the machine in a clockwise direction in order to get cleansing.  The brush head did feel softer on my body, but there were some longer bristles that did feel pretty scratchy.  After showering I did feel that my face was cleaned mostly.  I did have to do some additional cleaning around my nose that I apparently missed.  I tried one more time on my face, but have since gone back to konjac sponges.  I will continue to use the body brush for weekly exfoliation.  Below I have a video of the brush in action.  There is also an applicator sponge attachment for getting moisturizers to penetrate the skin and a pumice stone for your feet.  The kit does come with a nice travel and storage bag.

At about 15% the cost of my old Clarisonic Plus, this is an option for someone wanting to try out a machine cleaner or as a gift for a friend.  But I will continue to save up for a replacement Clarisonic.

I was looking forward to trying out this body lotion.  I received this lotion quickly in the mail and it was packaged and plastic wrapped so there would be no messes while shipping.  I had a bit of difficulty getting the pump to open and begin working, but after a minute I was able to get the pump going like normal.  The scent is nice, it does remind me of the Bath & Body Works Eucalyptus & Peppermint aromatherapy lotion.  The scent does not smell fake or cloying.  This Black Canyon lotion does take a little while to be absorbed into my skin.  I tried it a couple times after a shower as a body lotion.  The smell is pretty strong for all over lotion for my taste.  I also thought the lotion never fully absorbed into my legs and my trousers kept getting attached to my legs for a while.  I have been much more pleased to use this as a spot hand cream.  I keep the pump bottle on my desk now so I can have it conveniently placed whenever I need it during the day.  Black Canyon has a number of other lotion scents that can be found at Amazon in the link below.

I was curious to try out this B12 serum.  Now this is not a facial rejuvenating serum.  This is a B-12 vitamin serum that you take topically instead of in pill or injection form!  I know that with vitamin B 12 you need a certain amount and then your body will just get rid of the rest so you won't really overdose on this vitamin.  I have been using the recommended 2 pumps of serum/cream on my arms every morning.  The light pink cream is a little minty and the consistency of thin toothpaste.  It rubs in and absorbs quickly into my skin.  A couple of minutes later I do not smell any mintiness on my arms, so I am glad that I am not walking around smelling like minty Bengay all morning.

Francois et Mimi Vintage Double Wall French Press Review

I have spend the last month enjoying this fancy Francois et Mimi Vintage Double Wall French Press.  I have been very happy with the look and usefulness of this french press.  I used to be in catering and foodservice for many years and this is the type of higher end look I would use for catered events.  The polished stainless steel insulated pot is well made.  I am happy that there are not any gold adornments or wooden pieces.  Those things may look nice at first but very soon they always quickly wear out and make the vessel look worn out and ratty.  The pot holds 32 oz of hot water for coffee but can be used with less water and grounds.  I have typically been using 16-24 oz of water for my coffee pot and have been just fine with not having the water cool off.

 There are instructions on the box that this french press comes in.  I recommend, from years of experience, that after using a metal coffee pot to clean it and dry the pot and then put it in a plastic bag and store it in its box.  This just makes it safer from getting scratched and dinged.

to make a pot of coffee you simply boil your water and place the grounds in the pot.  Pour over the water and place the lid on the pot.  do not press the coffee press down yet.  Wait 5 minutes and then push the plunger down.  The coffee that pours out has a lovely crema on top reminiscent of an espresso.  Please watch my video of this press in action.

La Pedi Bon Review

I want to tell you all about my experience with this La pedi-Bon callous remover.  This callous remover comes with everything you need to have smooth feet(without 2 AA batteries).  You even get two roller stones so you can share with a friend or replace when yours wears out.  You even get a cover for the roller ball and a little brush to clean the machine.  I do wish there could be included a little bag to store all the parts in.  I found one around the house to use, but including one would be perfect.

After inserting the batteries and turning the machine on I found that this machine has some strength behind it.  I decided to try this out the first time after a shower so my callus were soft and ready for removing.  I found this callus remover to be effective.  The motor is powerful and does not quit when you apply pressure to your heels.  I also like that the grit is not so rough that there is pain or tearing of my feet like some metal greater-pediegg style callus removers.  The yucky thick heel skin peeled off easily into dust.  I decided to not show that picture.  I would recommend doing this over a hand towel because the callus dust builds up and knocks off onto the towel makes for easier cleanup.  I did a couple times feel the grinding roller get hot if I kept the roller on one spot for too long.  I would recommend that you slowly move the roller and go back to the different areas you need until your heel and toe calluses are gone.  Each time I have used this I have not had the motor get hot or quit.  I did notice that a couple days after using the machine I had some unsightly side heel skin peeling.  I was able to file it down with a hand filer.  I had this happen a couple times more since using this machine.
Overall I am happy with this La Pedi Bon machine.  I do follow up using the remover with a little filing to get my feet super smooth.  I like how powerful this callous remover is and recommend it for removing your toughest skin.









One thing that I highly recommend is that you use a foot cream after using the machine on your feet.  I have found that this improved the look of my feet in sandals a lot.  I have been using Burt's Bees Coconut foot creme on my heels.   There is a peppermint foot cream by Avon this does a good job as well.

Ava Shower Filter Review

I am excited about this shower filter.  I have been dealing with hard water and dry skin since I moved back home from Korea recently.  This water also gives me itchy skin later in the day.  I have been trying different body creams to help, but when I saw this water filter I was hoping this could be the answer to my issues.

This filter is pretty big and a bit bulky when I got it out of the package.  The filter comes with a roll of plumbers tape so I did not have to worry about locating my roll at home.  I swear I saw some a couple years ago in the junk drawer... The most difficult part of putting this filter on was getting my own shower head off of the pipe on my shower.  After a bit of elbow grease I was able to easily add the filter using a bit of plumbers tape for the pipe threads.  The filter did lower my pressure a little bit.  I was actually happy because my showerhead is a bit older and has a lot of pressure and heavy water flow.  I was going to replace the showerhead but now don't have to.

After my first shower I have been converted to this shower filter!  After a week of using this filter I no longer have to deal with itchy skin.  I also do not have to race to moisturize everything as soon as I towel off.  This filter is supposed to be effective for 9-12 months then you just toss it and replace it with a new filter.  I am assuming my skin will tell me when it is time to change.  The filter is a bit pricy but oh the change has been worth it.

The serum is very nice.  I have been using it under my moisturizers in the AM and PM.  This serum is a clear gel that is thicker but a little smooths easily over my face.  This serum has zero scent.  It has a tiny amount of Jojoba oil and does not feel greasy on my skin at all. I put it on and then about a minute later follow up with the Body Merry moisturizer(at night) or another AM moisturizer.

I enjoy using these two products together.  I am guessing that if you have drier skin than I do or live in a drier part of the country(I'm in the deep South) The moisturizer would be great for both morning and night.

PopSugar Must Have Subscription March Review

I have my PopSugar March box here for review.

Overall I am very happy with this month's box.  It is well rounded and has items that I have not received in boxes before so I am happy about that.  I also liked that these items are products that I would not necessarily think to purchase so it has been fun trying out these different treats.  Well I will just get started with the box.

the first thing I pulled out was an oil diffuser set by The Archivist in Cucumber Lemon.  Now I have not used diffusers myself.  I generally go old school with my signature candle scents.  But Mr Man likes to use diffusers.  I guess he has a fear of house fire or something.  Well I pulled the jar and reeds out of the packaging and *wow*  the scent is strong.  Not cloying but it definitely needs to be in a larger area.  The cucumber is much more pronounced than the lemon and I like it for a spring to summer scent.  Very happy with this item.  I did have to take the reeds out after accidentally leaving this bottle in a closed bedroom for an afternoon.  Also the lid can be recapped so you can put the scent on pause if you wish.     greenmarketpurveying.com($20)

Next up is the Micromagic Microdermabrasion tube by Bliss beauty($48) I am happy to see a full size microderm product for my face.  I like Bliss products and have been happy with this pumice scrub.  It has a very mild slightly minty scent.  Not overly gritty and you can massage with as much pressure as you choose.  Of course this is a once a week product and if you think it is too harsh for your face feel free to use it on your body, elbows, and/or feet instead.  

I also got the Wet Brush in a travel size($4.95)  This brush is supposed to be great for brushing out your wet hair because the bristles are super flexible so that it does not pull and snap your hair when it is more delicate.  It an be used wet or dry.  I am still on the fence about this brush.  Yes after a few uses I have gotten used to the super softness of the bristles.  And yes, I know that I should not use a regular brush on my freshly showered super long/bleached hair.  And yes, this brush does the job of detangling.  But I have always used a regular paddle brush and have not had any issues with bad breakage in the last couple years.  Maybe I should try the full sized brush before dismissing this Wet Brush.  I have the Amazon link(affiliate codes) to it at the bottom of this post.  

Also as an added bonus we got 2 samples by Benefit cosmetics.  The Roller Lash Mascara & Porefessional makeup primer.  The mascara is supposed to be curling, but I can guarantee that it will give me panda eyes within 2 hours.  I can only use a couple mascaras.  Maybe I will try it with a sealer.  I am happy to see the primer.  I just need to remember to use this before putting on foundation to help my makeup set and stay.  

The next couple of items fit in with their travel theme(like the travel sized Wet brush).  

There is a fun pad of checklists of What to Pack Pad by Knock Knock($7)  A fun pack(maybe 50 sheets) of a basic checklist of what to pack when going away for a trip so you don't forget any essentials.  I like that this pad is pretty up to date and also has blanks so you can write down your own personalized needs too.  I am pretty awesome at packing so I may gift this to a friend.  

In the vein of travel bags is a Pink Pina Zip Pouch by Samudra($40!)  Insert expletive of choice at that price; I know I did.  This is a fun and useable 12"x 9" zip pouch ideal for travel and can hold all your toiletries or great for tossing in a beach bag so loose items stay together.  But it is a oversized pink zip pouch with pineapples on it.  I think $12 would be a more than generous price for this.  Apparently it is exclusive to this PopSugar box.  Whatevs.

There is was also one more item in the box.  Halfpops in Mesquite BBQ($1.69).  Now Mesquite is not what I generally gravitate towards, but these halfpops were darn tasty.  Think Corn Nuts for hipsters.

Petunia Skincare 1.5mm Needles Derma Roller Review

I have been interested in derma rollers ever since I saw my first saw one at a beauty show several years ago.  Hundreds of tiny needles are rolled around your face to make tiny tiny punctures so your skin has to work to make new(fresh) skin cells and allow for serums and creams to really get into your skin and do some good instead of sitting on top of dead skin.  Well that makes a lot of sense to me.  I mean think about it; you make a pudding poke cake and the way to get the cake all creamy and moist is to poke toothpick holes into a freshly baked sheet cake and then pour your pudding onto the cake surface.  So when you bite into the cake you get creamy bites of yummy cake and pudding.  So if your freshly washed face is the cake, then the derma roller is the toothpick.  In the end you get moist soft skin.

Alright, so I washed my face and then I put a light layer of Body Merry's Retinol Surge moisturizer on.  I took the clean Petunia Skincare Derma Roller and rolled it back and forth slowly left to right 5 times, up & down 5 times, and then diagonally 5 times.  This took me about 5 minutes I believe.  I did not press too hard but I did press to make sure that I was getting to a couple layers of skin.  I made sure to avoid my eyes and delicate eye skin areas.  I did watch some youtube videos and looked at a blogger who is also an aesthetician and they all said that you have to press hardish onto to the skin to get results.  Well for the first time I went pretty soft on my skin.  After finishing up I put a serum of Body Merry's Hyaluronic Serum on my face and then finished up with more moisturizer a minute later.  My face was a bit pinkish for about an hour, but after that I looked just fine.  I noticed the next day that my face felt hydrated so I guess I was able to get the moisturizer to penetrate a bit.  I look forward to using this again in a few weeks.  Next time I will press a little firmer so I can start getting lasting results and youthful skin.  At less thank $20 for this derma roller you can try it out yourself.   I recommend this derma roller and hope you try it out and get great results too!

Nutraplex Pineapple Coconut & Megaberry Bar Review

I got the opportunity to try out each of these two energy bars.  I like to have portability with my nutrition so I am able to get a nutritious meal replacement before or after a workout.  Both of these bars are made with all natural ingredients that do not need my amazing power of the Google to decipher.  The first two ingredients in these bars are dates & Chia seeds.  When you bite into them you will know that this is the truth.  The mashed date is definitely the binder for this bar.  The Chia seeds are mostly whole so be sure to chew as much as possible so you can get the benefits from them.  The first bar i tried was the Pineapple coconut.  The main taste was coconut and date.  I had to concentrate to get the pineapple taste.  The bar was pretty easy to chew and was soft.  The flavor was not really for me and after about half the bar I was finished.  The chia seeds do tend to get stuck and then swell in your teeth so make sure that you brush or floss about 20 minutes after eating these bars.  The megaberry was a lot better tasting for my palette.  the megaberry bar had a strong cranberry flavor and again the Chia seeds got stuck in my teeth.  I did get a bit more energy and not a sugar crash after an hour of eating this bar.  I like that there are no mystery ingredients, but normally look for more protein in a meal replacement bar.   You can find more information and can purchase these and other flavors of bars at http://nutraplex.com/index.php/
